Vortex charge

Extended Ginzburg-Landau theory accounts for (in the superconductors usually ignored) possible presence of electric field. It enabled us to calculate experimentally observed electric charge of the vortex core

Charge density in a superconductor with a triangular vortex lattice.

The charge density is plotted in units 1026 electrons per unit cell, with the volume of the unit cell 0.173 nm3 corresponding to YBCO.
